The Power of the Imam

Seems the Prison Service are beginning to realise the power of salah, and in particular, the power of the imam of the salah.

The Battle for Influence will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Thursday, 4 May at 2000 BST. This particular story discusses the effect Khalid al Fawwaz had on Muslim prisoners when he lead the salah in Woodhill.

Former inmate Raja Mouib said: "When he used to do the prayers he used to get hold of you... the kind of things he would say, the way he prayed, it was like he put everything into it. He had that strong kind of effect that got hold of you."

In response, the Prison Service has now appointed its own imam.

Seems that they have realised that it is not just the khutbah but the salah itself which is such a powerful weapon.

Asalamualaikum,

I finally got to listen to the Battle for influence (Islam in prison) and it was so insightful. Muslims make up 3% of the population, but 10% of the prison population. It was nice to hear the prisoners speak...especially the Muslim scotsman.

Wassalam
